Invar 42 is an alloy formulated of Nickel, Chromium and Iron with extension of Molybdenum, Copper and Titanium. The alloy invented to contribute exceptional resistance to many corrosive environments and reducing environments that acquire sulphuric acid and phosphoric acid. The nickel content in the alloy is acceptable for the resistance to chloride ion and stress corrosion cracking. The alloy has exceptional anti- oxidation and non-oxidizing heat acid performance. The titanium content in the alloy sustains to resists intergranular attack after fabrication and pitting. The alloy has good welability by all conventional mechanism.
Invar 42 Flange Type
Invar 42 is a nickel-iron alloy that exhibits qualities in controlled expansion applications that are similar to those of Invar 42. Invar 42 is also highly effective in magnetic applications. It can be hot and cold formed and it is not overly difficult to machine. Super Invar possesses many of the qualities of the other Invar alloys. It is effective in extreme temperatures ranging from -32?C to 275?C.

Principal Design Features
This is an iron-nickel alloy with controlled thermal expansion properties.
Applications
Used for glass-to-metal sealing of components that are enclosed in a glass envelope, such as lamps and electron tubes.
Machinability
The alloy is readily machinable by conventional techniques.
Forming
Ductility and thus formability are very good.
Welding
The alloy may be welded by conventional methods.
Heat Treatment
An annealing heat treatment may be used. The alloy is not hardenable by heat treatment.
Forging
Forging may be done at 2200 F. As is true of all the high nickel content alloys care should be taken to avoid contamination from sulfur due to long soaking time in a furnace atmosphere.
Cold Working
The alloy has good ductility and is readily cold worked.
Annealing
Anneal at 1450F (788C) followed by air cooling.
Hardening
Hardens due to cold working only.
